The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) particle physics group at the CERN Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research position. A Ph.D. in particle physics or a related field is required.
The UCLA CMS research group, led by Profs. Michail Bachtis, Robert Cousins, Jay Hauser, and David Saltzberg, is active in data analyses, upgrade projects, and muon detector operations. Ongoing data analyses include searches for displaced dileptons and heavy resonances in di-lepton and di-boson final states. Upgrade projects include new CSC electronics for Run 3, development of GEM muon electronics for HL-LHC, and new algorithms and electronics for the L1 muon trigger.
The successful candidate will take a leading role in the search for displaced particles using LHC Run 2 data and development of improved trigger algorithms for displaced particles in Run 3. The position could be based at CERN or UCLA.
Applicants should send a CV, a list of publications to which they made identified contributions, and a brief statement of research interests to cmspostdocsearch@physics.ucla.edu. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same email address. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled.
For inquiries about this position, please contact Jay Hauser (hauser@physics.ucla.edu).
Women and minority candidates are urged to apply. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
