Job description:
The High Energy Physics group at the Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow position on the ATLAS experiment.

The SFU HEP group currently consists of 4 faculty members: Matthias Danninger, Dugan O'Neil, Bernd Stelzer and Mike Vetterli, 3 postdocs and 7 graduate students involved in the ATLAS experiment at CERN (atlas.cern.ch). The group has strong ties to TRIUMF (Canada's national subatomic physics laboratory) and other local HEP groups in Vancouver.

We have several physics interests within our ATLAS group, including: a wide range of Beyond the Standard Model searches (Long-Lived Particles, Vector-Like Quarks, new resonances), Higgs physics, top physics and quark compositeness. The SFU group has taken leading roles in the ATLAS Inner Detector track and vertex reconstruction, in-situ jet calibration, and has a significant involvement in the construction of the new inner tracker strip detector (ITk). Our group has also taken a leading role in the development of Canada's contribution to ATLAS computing.

The successful candidate will be expected to play a leading role in the group’s current and future physics analysis efforts, and to participate in the supervision of graduate students. They will also have the opportunity to contribute to the ITk upgrade. The position can be based either at CERN or SFU (with travel to CERN as needed).

Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in particle or astroparticle physics by the time of appointment. The initial appointment will be for 1 year but will be renewable upon mutual agreement for 2 additional years. Salary will be competitive, and depend upon experience. Interested individuals are asked to submit via email a cover letter including a research statement, a CV, and arrange to have 3 reference letters sent to: sfu-atlas-postdoc@sfu.ca.

Applications received by November 1st, 2019 will receive full consideration. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.

Please contact Prof. Matthias Danninger (mdanning@sfu.ca) for further information.

SFU is committed to ensuring that no individual is denied access to employment opportunities for reasons unrelated to ability or qualifications. Consistent with this principle, we will advance the interests of underrepresented members of the work force, specifically Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and women; embrace gender and sexual diversity; ensure that equal opportunity is afforded to all who seek employment at the University; and treat all employees equitably. Thus, candidates that belong to underrepresented groups in Physics are particularly welcome to apply.
