Job description:

The Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking outstanding candidates for one or more postdoctoral position to work on Electron Ion Collider (EIC) science – as part of an Argonne Strategic Initiative for the EIC. The positions are for two years, with the option to extend for a third year contingent on funding and performance. Applications received by 15 November 2019 will receive full consideration, and the start date can be as soon as January 2020.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team to develop the scientific program of the EIC, leveraging the world-class high-performance computing (HPC) facilities at Argonne to perform simulations for EIC science. The HPC facilities consist of the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF), which will host the first exascale computer in the USA, and the Laboratory Computing Resource Center (LCRC). The successful candidate(s) will have opportunities to develop scientific leadership in experimental nuclear physics, theoretical nuclear physics, and computational science.

The EIC strategic initiative is a close collaboration between members of the Medium Energy, Theory, and Accelerator R&D groups from Argonne’s Physics Division. A high-luminosity high-energy polarized EIC was identified by the nuclear physics community as the highest priority for new facility construction, and will play a crucial role in developing our understanding of the role of gluons in nucleons and nuclei.
